John the Apostle was Jewish and he quoted the scriptures. He did not know what the New Testament was?

In the mindset of many church going Christians the thought that the Jewish people at the time of Christ did not know the Old Testament or Holy Scriptures is often pervasive. When Jesus, a Rabbi, walked up to Simon and Andrew (English names) He made a request "And Yeshua said to them, “Come after me, and I will make you fishers of men.” (Mark 1:17) They both, according to the literal meaning immediately followed him....If he was anything other than a Jewish Rabbi chances of them "Immediately" following him were at best slim to none!

When Yohannan (the disciple John) was caught up in Heaven the first thing he notices is 7 Menorahs something he would have been very familiar with. He would have also known the implication of the number seven.

Revelation 1:12-13 And I turned to know that voice which spoke with me, and when I turned around, I saw seven menorahs of gold. And in the midst of the menorahs as the likeness of a man, and he wore an ephod and he was girded around his chest with a golden wrap.

Yohannan or John would have been familiar with the service being conducted because he was Jewish and would have readily seen a temple service being conducted by Yeshua.

The idea that the Jewish people were experiencing for the first time a Christian understanding now being revealed is misleading. When Rabbi Shaul was walking towards Damascus and experienced an encounter with the same God that Moses knew he would not have stood up as Benny Hinn or Creflo Dollar (I am not making an offense here but rather pointing out a fact often overlooked. Paul never converted to Christianity he returned to what Moses knew) but rather he could only have stood up with the wisdom and knowledge of Joshua or Caleb, restored. God's word did not change. The fact that Yohannan (John) states emphatically, "In the origin The Word had been existing and That Word had been existing with God and That Word was himself God. This One himself was at the origin with God (John 1:1-2 ) John is actually quoting Genesis 1:1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. What is not translated in Genesis 1:1 is the Alef Tav or fourth word clearly scribed in the Torah scroll. The English does not translate the word?
בְּרֵאשִׁ֖ית  בָּרָ֣א  אֱלֹהִ֑ים  אֵ֥ת  הַשָּׁמַ֖יִם  וְאֵ֥ת  הָאָֽרֶץ׃

The references found in the Holy Scriptures that Rabbi Shaul was addressing when he wrote in 2nd Timothy 3:16 "Every Scripture is God-breathed and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for instruction in righteousness"

He was referring to the scriptures recorded from Genesis to Malachi. The New Testament had not been written. How can a Jewish rabbi teach Christianity using only the books of the so called "Old Testament?" Was Rabbi Shaul an eye witness to the Messiah? I would say that his encounter, some 25 years after the Messiah left was a result of this particular Jew (Rabbi Extraordinaire)  being restored to the word of God......(Things were simply a mess after Rome tossed in a bunch of Pagan religions etc, etc) Just as were the descendants of Jacob via Moses when he led them out of Egypt. They were not taught a new Gospel but rather what Abraham 500 years earlier knew.
Genesis 26:5 because Abraham obeyed my voice, and kept my requirements, my commandments, my statutes, and my laws." Even Moses knew of this understanding long before he went up to Mt Sinai--
Exodus 18:16 When they have a matter, they come to me, and I judge between a man and his neighbor, and I make them know the statutes of God, and his laws."

So let's look at a few scriptures that Yohannan (John) quoted because he knew the Word of God before HE became flesh. After all,  the purpose of the scriptures is not to teach us how to be better Christians but to reveal the ways of ELOHIM of Israel by revealing the SON or the Lion of the Tribe of Yehuda, King of the Jews through.....Jacob/Israel, from Genesis to Revelation who spoke the words of his Abba.

Revelation 1:1 The Revelation of Yeshua The Messiah, which God gave to him, to show his Servants what had been given to soon occur, and he symbolized it when he sent by his Angel to his Servant Yohannan,
Daniel 2:28-29 but there is a God in heaven who reveals mysteries, and he has made known to King Nebuchadnezzar what will be in the latter days. Your dream and the visions of your head as you lay in bed are these: To you, O king, as you lay in bed came thoughts of what would be after this, and he who reveals mysteries made known to you what is to be.

Revelation 2:1 And to The Messenger of the assembly of Ephesaus write: 'Thus says he who holds the seven stars in his hand, he who walks among the menorahs of gold:'”
Deuteronomy 23:14 for Yahweh your God walks in the midst of your camp, to deliver you, and to give up your enemies before you; therefore your camp shall be holy, that he may not see an unclean thing in you, and turn away from you.

Revelation 2:14 But I have a few things against you, because you have there some who hold the teaching of Balaam, who taught Balak to throw a stumbling block before the children of Israel, to eat things sacrificed to idols, and to commit sexual immorality.
Numbers 24:14 Now, behold, I go to my people: come, [and] I will inform you what this people shall do to your people in the latter days."
Numbers 25:1-3 Israel stayed in Shittim; and the people began to play the prostitute with the daughters of Moab: for they called the people to the sacrifices of their gods; and the people ate, and bowed down to their gods. Israel joined himself to Baal Peor: and the anger of Yahweh was kindled against Israel.

Revelation 3:14 To the angel of the assembly in Laodicea write: "The Amen, the Faithful and True Witness, the Head of God's creation, says these things
Isaiah 65:16 so that he who blesses himself in the earth shall bless himself in the God of truth; and he who swears in the earth shall swear by the God of truth; because the former troubles are forgotten, and because they are hidden from my eyes.

Revelation 5:5 And one of the Elders said to me, “Do not weep; behold, The Lion from the tribe of Judah, The Root of David, has prevailed to open the scroll and its seals.”
Genesis 49:9-10  Judah is a lion's cub. From the prey, my son, you have gone up. He stooped down, he crouched as a lion, as a lioness. Who will rouse him up? The scepter will not depart from Judah, nor the ruler's staff from between his feet, until he comes to whom it belongs. To him will the obedience of the peoples be.

Revelation 7:14 And I said to him, “My Lord, you know.” And he said to me, “These are those who came from great suffering and they have purified their garments and whitened them in the blood of The Lamb.”
Genesis 49:11 Binding his foal to the vine, his donkey's colt to the choice vine; he has washed his garments in wine, his robes in the blood of grapes
Isaiah 1:18 "Come now, and let us reason together," says Yahweh: "Though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow. Though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.
Zechariah 3:3-5 Now Joshua was clothed with filthy garments, and was standing before the angel. He answered and spoke to those who stood before him, saying, "Take the filthy garments off of him. To him he said, "Behold, I have caused your iniquity to pass from you, and I will clothe you with rich clothing. I said, Let them set a clean turban on his head." So they set a clean turban on his head, and clothed him; and the angel of Yahweh was standing by."

Revelation 22:3 There will be no curse any more. The throne of God and of the Lamb will be in it, and his servants serve him.
Genesis 3:17 To Adam he said, "Because you have listened to your wife's voice, and have eaten of the tree, of which I commanded you, saying, 'You shall not eat of it,' cursed is the ground for your sake. In toil you will eat of it all the days of your life. Thorns also and thistles will it bring forth to you; and you will eat the herb of the field. By the sweat of your face will you eat bread until you return to the ground, for out of it you were taken. For you are dust, and to dust you shall return."
